Document grouping for Kriegsmarine Fregattenkapitän (equivalent to the rank of Lt. Colonel) Karl Nieschlag. Research indicates the Nieschlag held senior staff positions throughout the war, notably as commandant of “equipment and supply department” at Kriegsmarinewerft Bordeaux (Jul 1942 to Jan 1943) and finished the war as Chief Quartermaster with Marinoberkommando Süd in Italy (Jan 1945 to May 45).

Includes:

-1943 dated photo postcard of naval officer Nieschlag in dress uniform, his sleeve insignia indicate his rank of Fregattenkapitän and has an qualification engineering badge. He’s wearing a Narvik campaign shield and has ribbons for WW1 and WW2 Iron Cross 2nd Class. Dress dagger is held in his hand.

-8 documents, including Nieschlag’s birth and death certificates (1895-1974), 5 WW1 era documents and a post-WW2 letter of thanks from an American college professor.

The WW1 documents all attest to Nieschlag’s honorable service as a naval cadet engineer (Marine Ingenieuraspirant) during WW1. He served aboard multiple ships, including 3 battleships (Preussen, Kaiser Barbarossa and Hindenburg), as well as a couple of cruisers. The letter of thanks is dated 1971 and is thanking Nieschlag for having provided information about German naval operations in the Murmansk area during WW2 (I didn’t find any other info on his specific role in these operations).

-Neat little handmade booklet sent to him on his 75th birthday (in 1970), from various crewmates that he’d served with. The text alludes briefly to his wartime service during both world wars. Comes with a photo of Nieschlag in later life.
