Wehrpass grouping for Heinz Vootz, includes:

-2nd edition Wehrpass issued to Heinz Vootz in June 1940. Born in September 1921, in Krefeld, Vootz completed his service with the RAD (Reichsabeitsdienst) in January 1941, joining the army in February 1941. He served with several different training battalions before being assigned to Infanterie Regiment 110 in early October 1941. This regiment was part of the 112th infantry division. Vootz would have fought in the Bryansk encirclement in October, before redeploying to participate in the Battle of Moscow. He was killed on November 10th, south of the city of Tula. The division was under General Guderian’s command and would suffer heavy casualties defending against Soviet counter-attacks in November / December. Entries state that Vootz trained with the standard 98k rifle and the MG34 machine gun. This Wehrpass was presumably mailed to his family after his death.

-Large, framed, “Death Card” for Heinz Vootz, with a photo of him in dress uniform. Unusual size, measuring around 26cm x 18cm (with frame). It states that he was a Schütze in an infantry regiment and that he had received the Reichssportabzeichen. It also states that he completed 4 months of service with the RAD. It specifies that he died in heavy combat around Tula, alongside an NCO (Kompanie-Chef) and 9 other soldiers from his unit. Striking image, displays very nicely.

-Small group of letters / documents mailed to Heinz Vootz’s parents after his death. Includes a November 11th 1941 dated letter written by a Leutnant, mentioning that Vootz was killed around 7:00 AM, having been shot in the head (Kopfschuss). The officer goes on to say that he died near Wawarowka, 60km south of Tula and that he died alongside 9 other comrades, including 3 NCO’s. They were all buried in a small military cemetery, the officer promising to send a photo later. There is also a list of returned items (cigarettes, money, etc), a form stating the compensation funds his family would receive, a birth certificate (Geburtsurkunde) and a death certificate (Sterbeurkunde), as well as two Feldpost stamped envelopes.

Very collectible Wehrpass grouping, eye-catching framed Death Card and a uncommon amount of details concerning Schütze Vootz's death (causes, circumstances and location are all provided in surprising details). All entries and stamps have been photographed.
