Soldbuch issued to Karl Späth, who was born in September 1903 and worked as a merchant. The Soldbuch was opened in early March 1943 in the city of Kehl am Rhein. His rank is listed as Pionier (combat engineer) and he served with several bridging companies, one example being Brückenbau Ers. u. Ausb. Batl. 1. He appears to have mainly served with Ld. Pionier Battalion 508

He was issued a fairly large amount of equipment and clothing, including a wide variety of winter gear, tent, sports clothing, gas masks, etc. He was also issued 3 standard Gewehr 98K rifles and at least 2 bayonets (serial numbers recorded). Standard immunization and medical records. He went on leave a few times, his final leave in late October 1944 (Einsatzurlaub) indicates that he may have finished his military service in late 1944, although his dismissal date isn’t specified. He likely spent the duration of his military service on the homefront, although I can’t confirm this with 100% certainty.

It shows the expected wear and age, no missing pages, but the front cover has nearly come off (it’s only hanging on a little and may separate). His original ID photo appears to have been removed, however the Soldbuch came with a photo tucked into it of a Wehrmacht soldier who seems to fit his general description. All entries and stamps have been photographed.
