Imperial German / WW1 era Militärpass, military ID booklet issued to Johann Fuchs, who held the rank of Gefreiter. Born in December 1883, in a small town near the city of Mainz, he joined a prestigious Prussian infantry regiment, namely the Infanterie Regiment Kaiser Wilhelm, 2. Großherzoglich Hessisches nr 116 (11 Kompanie). He served his first stint in the military from October 1903 to September 1905. He was recalled for training between 1905 and the First World War. He was mobilized with the same regiment in early August 1914. A partly translated notation in his Militärpass indicates that he was wounded on September 8th 1914, near the village of Blacy, France, during the famous Battle of the Marne. Many of the entries are difficult to read / translate, but he appears to have spent some time working (or guarding?) at Opel manufacturing facilities in Rüsselsheim. He finished the war with a replacement field artillery battalion, being demobilized in late November 1918. The Militärpass has a 1918 demobilization certificate and 1905 good conduct certificate (Führungs Zeugnis) glued on its covers. Interesting WW1 military ID for veteran soldier who fought in an iconic battle.
***Condition note: The booklet’s covers have detached, but no pages have been lost.
