Autographed photo - General Remer, July 20th plot officer
Couldn't load pickup availability
Postwar photographic postcard of Generalmajor Ernst Otto Remer, which bears his autograph in pen in the lower right corner. The reverse has a short biography of Remer written on it. The photo has been trimmed a bit along the bottom edge.
Remer was the commanding officer of the elite Wachbattailon Großdeutschland in Berlin during the July 20th plot to assassinate Hitler. He initially began arresting senior Nazi officials, but while arresting Goebbels he was informed that Hitler was still alive (over the phone by the Hitler himself). He then turned on the conspirators and placed them under arrest. These events have been dramatized in several TV shows and films. Remer was a well decorated officer, having been awarded the Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves. Unfortunately his involvement in politics post-WW2 was unsavoury. He died in 1997. Neat piece of history to own.
