1st edition Arbeitsbuch issued to Alois Klein, a resident of the town of Saarlouis, in the Saarland region, along the border with France. Born in November 1901, the Arbeitsbuch was issued in December 1935. He worked as some sort of machine operator in a fairly well know steel / metal factory (Mannesmannröhren Werke), likely making buses / automobile parts, from 1936 to late 1939. In November 1939 he began working on the Westwall defensive fortifications along the Franco-German border (Westwallarb.), doing this work until July 1940. He then returned to the factory and appears to have been recruited into the military in July 1943, since there is a notation that states “Militär 27.7.43”. Interesting Arbeitsbuch, in good condition.
