Green WW2 era softcover folder, the front cover is dated mid-January 1942 and has the likely owner’s name, “Gerhard Riedel”, written on it. The owner’s address is also written on the front, Saarstr. 10 Bad Cannstatt, which is now part of the city of Stuttgart.

The folder contains 57 pages, the owner filled these pages with newspaper clippings (from 1941-42) and postcards / photos. The newspaper or magazine clippings usually have accompanying text, as well as occasionally having written annotations. They mainly trace Germany’s victories in the Balkans (Yugoslavia and Greece in the Spring of 1941), later referencing early German victories in the Soviet Union in the summer of 1941. The pages have a total of 52 postcards glued on them, portraying Luftwaffe aircraft, Kriegsmarine ships, artwork of German troops in action, Hitler and officials, Wehrmacht officers, etc. Unfortunately 7 pages have had at least one photo or postcards removed at some point.

Intriguing little wartime collection, nice provenance. Some of the postcards aren’t very common and there are a few eye catching articles and photos among the newspaper clippings: the capture of the King of Yugoslavia’s uniform, Stukas knocking out Soviet tanks, Soviet POW’s and the destruction of Soviet troops, Germans storming the Metaxas line in Greece, routed British troops fleeing Greece, etc.

Most pages have been photographed, though not quite all.
