Wehrpass - Heer teenage NCO, KIA Russia 1943

2nd edition Wehrpass issued to Unteroffizier Ludwig Jaeger. He completed his RAD service with the rank of Arbeitsmann in late September 1942, during which he was attached to Luftwaffe units stationed in Germany. It is also mentioned that he completed a course in counter-espionage during his RAD service. He was drafted into the army on October 15th 1942 (as a 17 year old). He served in several Grenadier battalions, seeing service on the Eastern Front as a member of Grenadier Regiment 464, part of Infanterie Division 253 (the entries also specify that he served with the 9th Army in Russia). He was trained to use the Gewehr 98k rifle and the MG34 machine gun. He was awarded the Infantry Assault Badge (Inf. Sturmabzeichen). He was killed on November 28th 1943, age 18. The Wehrpass is nicely filled out with uniform sizes and his blood type. He likely fought in the Rzhev, Orel and Bobruisk areas of Russia, where his division fought throughout 1943. It comes with two pieces of correspondence:

• A small paper (dated May 1943), identifying Jaeger’s unit, that attests that he will be executed if he shows “cowardice, self-harm or desertion”. It has his signature at the bottom. Interesting document, haven’t seen this before in other Wehrpasses, uncommon document.
• A late April 1944 dated letter of condolences, signed by a Lt. Colonel, that was mailed to Jaeger’s parents and accompanied his Wehrpass, which was sent along with this letter.
