Large (36cm x 25.5cm x 6cm thick), hard cover, cloth-bound, German WW2 period photo album. Consists of 77 double-sided pages with photos, newspaper clippings / articles, etc depicting the Staatstheater des Generalgouvernements in Krakau (state theater of the Generalgouvernement in Krakow). The German occupation authorities in Poland, headed by the infamous Hans Frank, established a German theater in Krakow in mid-1940, led by director Friedrichfranz Stampe. This photo album documents the 1941-42 season, covering the plays, operas, concerts and performances that occurred from September 1941 to June-July 1942. Nearly 230 photos / printed images glued on the pages (some photos that are partly unglued have Generalgouvernement official stamps on the reverse, as well as written descriptions). Very well documented, basically all plays / performances from this period have playbills / programs, reviews and newspaper articles, lists of actors / musicians, etc. There are also interesting details such as the proposed model for the new German theater in Krakow (proposed in 1942, it was never built).

Interesting for those who wish to document the German occupation of Poland / Krakow, offers a rare glimpse of an aspect of life in the capital of the infamous Generalgouvernement. Quite a large album, weighing nearly 3kg.
